This document will outline the process of crafting devotionals that facilitate the theological formation process into the Bible translation process. For details on how to conduct devotions in a classroom setting, refer to the Devotions for Translators Facilitator Guide.

Step 1 - Determine the type of devotion you will be conducting:

There are different types of devotions suited to different purposes. Three common types are:

Team Building Devotionals
Topical Devotions
Exegetical/Hermeneutical Devotions

Step 2 – Review the passage you will be covering and make sure you understand its meaning. Prayerfully ask God to share the truth of His word with you through the Holy Spirit opening the eyes of your understanding.

Step 3 – Draft a series of questions and make sure you have in mind the expected answers to these questions. Examples include:

Who is the author?
Who is the audience?
When was it written?
What is the main idea of the text? What is its theme?
Why was it written? What is the text intended to achieve or accomplish for the readers?
Where is God in this text?
- How is God manifested?
- What are we intended to learn about God from reading this text?
What does this text say to me personally?
- How can I apply this text to my life?
- How am I supposed to demonstrate in my life what this text is teaching me?
What can I share with others about this text?
- How can this text benefit them in their lives?
- How will they live differently after understanding the truths in this text?
