Research has shown that the most effective way to teach a skill is through a behavior modeling process. A simplified version of this process is called the “Learn, See, Do” method, but in order for training to become a permanent part of a learner’s skill set, there are a few more important elements.
The six steps of the behavior modeling process are:
You have already learned some of these steps as part of this course. Step 1 can be accomplished by explaining the Big Picture and WIIFM. Additionally, you can explain how the skill you are teaching contributes to the production of a clear, accurate, natural, and church-approved translation.
Your instructor will conduct a simulated training scenario concentrating on teaching a single skill. Observe how your instructor conducts this demonstration. Pay attention to how the instructor sets up, conducts, and debriefs the demonstration. Complete the questions on the worksheet below. When you are finished, be prepared to discuss your responses.
