Purpose: To elicite background knowledge of participants on specific topics

Set-up: Post large pieces of blank paper or posters around the room. One poster per topic. Use whatever topics will be referenced throughout the workshop. The poster will be filled with words or images created by the groups. Examples below

  1. Principles of CCBT

  2. GL Strategy

  3. BPF

Instructions:

  1. Divide participants into the same number of groups as posters.
  2. Give the groups several minutes to write down everything they can think of in connection to the topic on the poster. Suggested, 5-10 minutes
  3. Give each individual sticky notes.
  4. Instruct the groups to move clockwise around the room to the next poster.
  5. Set a time for 3 minutes to write Kudos or Comments on the Sticky notes.
  1. Move the groups around the room until they return to their original poster.
  2. Give the groups time to read the sticky note comments and amend answers on the poster.
  3. Then, do a large group share out to discuss posters–a way to cement final ideas as a whole group.

Example script for instructions for whole group:

Step 1: I am going to count you off 1-3. When you receive your number, move to your poster and wait for more instructions.

Step 2: As a group you have __ minutes to respond to the topic together. Write down every idea you have to answer the question.

Step 3: Everyone has sticky notes and pen. You will read the other groups posters and write kudos/comments on sticky notes. Place the sticky notes on the poster. When I start the timer on the screen, move as a group to the poster on your right. Stay at that poster and write sticky note comments, until the timer ends.
