CCBT Practicum – The Role of the Church in Bible Translation

Facilitator Guide

Duration: 90 minutes

Focus of Session: To give a concise presentation that walks the participants through what the Bible says about the church's role in Bible translation and how it fits in today's global context.

Method: Socratic method and small group discussion

Introduction Activity

Objective: Participants will elicit background information to connect global context to Bible translation movement

Present a brief 5 minute overview of what the translation process looked like in the traditional paradigm. Set the stage for how the context of the world has changed and that many people, when hearing about CCBT, don't fully grasp how we got here today.

Hook question: "How did we arrive here today with Bible translation? What did the process look like? What is today's context?”

Activity: Ask small groups to answer the question "How has the world globally changed over the last 50-60 years?" (quick, 5 minutes)

Report out and discuss briefly as a large group. Highlight the following key changes that are seen in today's context:

Biblical Foundation of the Church as the center of the story of God's work

Objective: Participants will search the Bible for the Church’s role in God’s work

Give the groups about 15 minutes to read the following passages and discuss within their group the questions below. After the 15 minutes have ended, give the opportunity for some people to speak about what impacted them. If you want to summarize, have them answer the final question.
