CCBT Practicum – Trusted and Trustworthy

Facilitator Guide

Duration: 180 minutes (Could be divided into two parts)

Focus of Session: Those who translate the Bible must produce a trustworthy text, while also enlisting the church network of the target language group to trust the text. Strategic Language (GL) teams have sometimes expressed doubts about the trustworthiness of unfoldingWord’s Greek and Hebrew texts as well as the ULT and UST translation tools. GL trainers need to effectively convince church networks to trust the tools. By working through this session, practicum participants will come to understand the concepts of trustworthy and trusted through an understanding of the tools that unfoldingWord uses.

Pre-requisites: The participants must be familiar with the existence of the ULT & UST to participate in this session.

Method: Group discussion resulting in solutions to problem-based learning scenarios.

Problem-based question: What rules can you establish for creating your GLT and GST, so that the OL users will trust your text?

Introduction Activity

Objective: Participants will develop rapport with one another, find common ground for discussion, and introduce the topic of Trusted & Trustworthy.

Greet the group and welcome them to the session. Use this ice breaker/warm-up before the session (get people walking and talking). Say: Please walk around the room and greet 3-5 people. Once you have finished, return to your seat, as that will signal when you’re done.

Debrief activity:

Use the introductory activity and debrief to preview the connection to trusted and trustworthy. Honor the doubts that participants may have, but challenge them to analyze the doubts thoroughly. Transition to the discovery activity to define trusted and trustworthy.
