🌸 PHASE ONE

Part 1: Prepare for Language Community Check 🍚

Objectives:

1: To gather all necessary tools to conduct a language community check (Ph1P1) 2: To find willing participants in the target language (Ph1P1)

👥 People

• Choose checkers to train on the process.
• Invite and gather many native speakers of the target language.
  • Include different genders, ages, positions, education levels, etc.
• Divide the community into different groups, so that one group can check for natural/appealing language and another group can check for clear/understandable meaning.

🎒 Materials

• A printout or recording of the OBS story

• A recorder to capture the community’s language suggestions

🗺️ Process

Train checkers on this process:

• Natural/Appealing language check 🌸
  • Play or read the story to the community group.
  • Ask members to stop the story when the language is not natural.
  • Record how the members say the words or phrases to make it natural.
• Clear/Understandable meaning check 💡
  • Play or read the entire story to the community group.
  • Ask corresponding translation questions to the group
  • Record any wrong or unclear answers as that indicates where the meaning is not clear

Part 2: Lead a Language Community Check 🎙️

Objectives:

1: To check the translation for natural/appealing language (Ph1P2) 2: To check the translation for clear/understandable meaning (Ph1P2)

  • Ask members to stop the story when the language is not how they would say it.
